I drink the flame

copper gold

pillars of light in the water

they sway

cars headlights’ reflected

passing under lamplights

different shades of light

parading the night

and there between

liquid and light

thoughts embrace me

like your arms

pale and strong

there in half moonlight

half dance

I measure time till your nearness

palm trees spread

like my fingers

reaching for your hand

to touch

to lace

in a palm I’ve claimed fate

claimed your breath

unheeded in the morning

constant and deep.

Grains of sand may lie

between our bodies

hours of silence

and of dusk

reality to poetry

as we drown in days together

and occasionally

hold the wave to breathe.
